4-Star Kentucky EDGE Commit Cedric Works Transfers to Frederick Douglass in Lexington
Kentucky’s highest-rated commit in the 2025 class is heading to Lexington this season to play his final year of high school football. 2025 four-star EDGE Cedric Works has enrolled at Frederick Douglass (Lexington, KY) High School, sources tell KSR+.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound edge rusher from Northmont (Dayton, OH) is ranked by the On3 Industry Ranking as the No. 19 EDGE and the No. 147 overall prospect in the 2025 class. On3 ranks Works as the No. 19 EDGE and No. 179 overall prospect in the class.
Cedric Works finished the 2023 season with 82 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks for Northmont. He also had two interceptions.
Andrew Marsh was one of Kentucky’s highest-ranked recruiting targets in the class of 2025. The Wildcats were able to get the top-100 receiver on campus for an official visit but that was as close as this recruitment got.
On Wednesday, the Fulshear (Texas) Katy Jordan wideout trimmed his list to five schools with an announcement scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 20. Kentucky will not be the pick. Colorado, Michigan, Texas, USC, and Washington make up Marsh’s top-five.
Kentucky wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts Jr. had a previous relationship with Andrew Marsh from his time spent on Houston’s staff but that was not enough to get Kentucky into the top five. Michigan appears to have much of the momentum heading into the announcement.
Are they about to land their first major high school recruit?
On Monday, 247 Sports recruiting expert Travis Branham logged a prediction in favor of the Kentucky Wildcats to land 4-star center Malachi Moreno. If that comes to pass, it would be the first signature high school recruiting win for Pope as Kentucky’s head coach. It would also be the highest-ranked commitment Pope has ever received in his coaching career, which began in 2009 as an assistant at Georgia.
Of course, Pope has never recruited with the brand and resources that Kentucky Basketball has until now, so he’s still an unknown in terms of how much success he can have recruiting elite high school recruits while coaching an elite program.
The fact that the 7-foot Moreno is one of the highest-ranked prospects the state of Kentucky has produced in recent memory adds more importance to the recruitment. The Great Crossing product is currently ranked No. 21 overall and No. 2 among centers in On3’s latest class of 2025 rankings.
