Blue blood recruiting: UNC, Kansas favorites for top 2025 guards; Kentucky, Duke trending for elite big men

National basketball analyst Travis Branham sat down with director of scouting Adam Finkelstein on Sunday and shared the latest intel on a handful of elite prospects in the class of 2025, including top 20 prospects Cameron and Cayden Boozer.

Ranking college football’s best new uniforms, helmets for 2024 season

Unveiling the sport’s latest alternate uniforms and helmet options.

College football’s 2024 season feature more than three dozen teams debuting new uniforms or helmets this season, including updated templates or one-off alternates. The look good, feel good, play good mantra coined by Deion Sanders should ring true for several programs inside this week’s preseason AP Top 25 rankings including a couple playoff hopefuls from the SEC and Group of Five ranks.

Extra points go to teams who took the subtle, more simplistic approach and allowed Nike, Adidas or Under Armour to do their thing to the highest degree without completely changing already impressive uniforms looks.

Programs not included in this ranking of new helmets and uniforms that will feature updated threads this season include Appalachian State, Arizona, Arkansas State, BYU, Bowling Green, Cal, Indiana, Illinois, Louisiana, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Purdue, Rice, TCU, Tulsa, UAB, ULM, UMass, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia, WKU and Wyoming.

Here’s a glance at 10 new uniform or helmets that are cause for excitement.

10. Baylor Bears

9. Boise State Broncos

Boise State made subtle changes to its Nike uniforms this season, redesigning the template just a bit for this fresh look. Blue, orange, white and black are all options for the Broncos, who have a variety of different contrasting combinations to choose from. The early-season game at Oregon, aesthetically-speaking, should look terrific.

7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series alternate this season is quite unique. Not only are the Gothic-style numerals in flashy gold, but the blue-gray color mix of a uniform is supposed to be inspired by legendary sports writer Grantland Rice’s famous lead from a game at the Polo Grounds featuring the Fighting Irish in 1924 — 100 years ago.

6. Miami Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes are going retro with their new 2024 uniforms from Adidas, a nod to the power era of “The U” as Mario Cristobal preps for his third season with his best roster to date. Miami unveiled its revised threads this summer with a video shot on the practice fields in Coral Gables featuring several looks, including green, white and orange jerseys with corresponding pants. This season’s version of the annual “Miami Nights” alternate look is all-black with orange accents.

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee has updated its popular “Smokey Grey” alternate uniforms this season as a “Volunteer State” edition, the second concept since these first debuted in 2022. The main changes to the uniform are an orange version of the flag’s emblem on the side of the shoulders and a bold “Tennessee” across the front above the jersey numbers. The Vols tout the uniform as “an ode to the state and Tennessee’s status as the flagship university.”

4. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Adidas is going retro this season with Texas Tech’s updated look. “RED RAIDERS” will be across red alternate jerseys, while “TEXAS TECH” has been stamped across the white road and home black options. Tackle-twill numerals and lettering gives these a true throwback appearance. We love them.

3. Ole Miss Rebels

Per Inside The Rebels, Ole Miss’ latest addition to their game day wardrobe is a combination that will feature a white helmet (2021 Sugar Bowl), white jerseys and white pants. Another helmet seen with the new combination has been a powder blue helmet. The slick part of the uniform are the powder blue numbers and stripes. Ole Miss’ newest white uniforms feature Nike’s ‘Vapor F.U.S.E.’ template.

2. Liberty Flames

After an unbeaten regular season last fall under Jamey Chadwell, Liberty is going to look the part as one of the Group of Five’s playoff leaders this fall. Not only is the program incorporating “FLAMES” in cursive across its alternate helmet options and jerseys, but Liberty took the minimalist approach with its updated jerseys and pants, too. In this case, simple is better.

1. Oregon Ducks

2027 RB Tranard Roberts set for early-season Florida visit

Florida will have one of the top running backs in the 2027 class on its campus for the season opener against Miami, but Bradenton (Fla.) IMG’s Tranard Roberts is interested in seeing both programs.

Both schools are among the double digit offers for the 6-foot, 180-pound Roberts.

As Roberts look to balance playing a national schedule at IMG with visiting schools, the Sunshine State matchup is in his vision.
