Man Utd 'line up shock loan transfer move for Chelsea flop Marc Cucurella' with defender on three-man shortlist | The Sun

There was speculation suggesting free agent Ryan Bertrand was under consideration after he left Leicester City in the aftermath of their relegation from the Premier League. Barcelona star Marco Alonso and Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon have both been mentioned as targets – but Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested the Red Devils are already discussing a surprise move for former Brighton and Hove Albion full-back Cucurella, who Chelsea signed for £63m back in August 2022.

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano said: “Manchester United and Chelsea spoke on Saturday about Marc Cucurella loan deal, as revealed yesterday. Understand Chelsea are open to letting Cucurella leave on loan but only at their conditions (loan fee/salary coverage). Up to United, as they’ve 3 options for new LB.”

The 3AM Verdict: It would be safe to say Cucurella has endured a challenging spell since making a big money move to Stamford Bridge last season. But his form at Brighton made him one of the most eye-catching left-backs in the Premier League and he could be a shrewd addition if Ten Hag is able to get him back to his energetic best at Old Trafford.

Gunners set for shock transfer windfall

Arsenal could be handed an unexpected financial boost as former Gunners midfielder Mateo Guendouzi is reportedly closing in on a move to Serie A club Lazio.

The France international left the Emirates Stadium joined Marseille on a permanent deal in the summer of 2021 following speculation of a fall-out with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and he has gone on to make over a century of appearances for the Ligue 1 club.

His form has attracted interest from Lazio and a 15 percent sell-on clause inserted in the deal that took him to Marseille is set to land the Gunners around £2.3million. That will add to the £2m Arsenal made from a deal that saw former defender Konstantinos Mavropanos leave Stuttgart to join West Ham United.

The 3AM Verdict: “The sums involved in this piece may seem pretty small fry compared to the large fees Arsenal have paid out this summer but any income will be welcome for the Gunners.”

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are said to have taken recent ‘checks’ on the Belgium international, who is believed to have attracted interest from Liverpool and Burnley over the last month.

Ligue 1 giants PSG are ready to make a £20million move for the winger, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, but Everton are ready to throw their hat into the ring to sign a player forging an impressive reputation for himself with some eye-catching performances in the Eredivise.

The 3AM Verdict: “There is no doubt Sean Dyche needs to inject some energy into his squad after a poor start to the Premier League season. Bakayoko is a talent but could take time to settle into life in England and it could be a case of right player at the wrong time.”
