Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as an update is provided on Lewis O’Brien amid transfer links with Leeds

A “problem” is said to have emerged in Leeds United’s reported hopes to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

Previous reports claimed that O’Brien is a “long-term target” for Leeds who are “keen on” the central midfielder as they desperately look to strengthen their squad in a bid to return to the Premier League.

It was also claimed that the Whites could sign O’Brien for £10million this summer while a loan deal – with a buy clause if Leeds are promoted – could be on the cards.

And now the Sun journalist Alan Nixon claims that there is “a problem” as the Reds want to recoup the £10m they paid Huddersfield for O’Brien while Leeds are only prepared to loan the 24-year-old with an option to buy.

The clock is ticking for a potential move to be completed as the summer transfer window slams shut on Friday, September 1 at 11pm.

O’Brien arrived at the City Ground last summer but struggled for game time and was due to join Blackburn Rovers on loan in January before a move fell through. He was subsequently left out of the club’s Premier League squad for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old then joined Major League Soccer side DC United in March where he enjoyed a successful loan spell which came to an end in July.
