Report: Isaac Hayden’s loan move to Luton Town has fallen through

Isaac Hayden’s season-long loan move to Luton Town has apparently fallen through, according to Alex Cook, who is Chief Football Correspondent at talkSport:

While rumours are already swirling that Hayden has failed his medical at Kenilworth Road, we believe a more likely explanation for Luton aborting the deal is that they have instead prioritised a loan move for Rob Holding of Arsenal.

Just yesterday, Ryan Taylor of The Express noted that Luton only had one “Premier League to Premier League” loan slot remaining, having already signed Issa Kaboré from Manchester City on a temporary deal:

And now it seems that The Hatters have decided to go for Holding ahead of Hayden, as they do not have the funds to make a permanent move for either player.

Hayden had been reported as having travelled to London yesterday for his medical, with Keith Downie of Sky Sports having the scoop:

The former Arsenal man still has three years to run on his Newcastle contract, having signed a six-year deal back in 2020. It was hoped that the club could secure another season-long loan move for him before the close of the transfer window if only to remove a portion of his wages from the books.

It remains to be seen whether another destination will open up for the midfielder, who is seemingly keen to get out and play first-team football having been excluded from training with the senior squad by Eddie Howe. He has no future at St. James’ Park so needs to get a move somewhere.

We’ll keep you posted on where that ends up being, but it would be a surprise to see another Premier League club showing interest in him. Another year in The Championship is surely more likely. Hopefully, it’s more successful and injury-free than the last!
