West Ham United transfer news as Hugo Ekitike as blow emerges today

West Ham United could be set to miss out on Huge Ekitike with Eintracht Frankfurt the favourites for his signature, according to Evening Standard.

The newspaper reported on its website on Wednesday (30 August) that the Hammers remain keen to secure the services of the Paris Saint-Germain striker this summer, but the Bundesliga club are ahead.

Crystal Palace were also in the race for the 21-year-old forward earlier in the transfer window but have instead opted to pursue other targets, namely Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho as they plan to reinforce their forward line.

The Hammers are also continuing to work on a deal for Corinthians forward Yuri Alberto with Tim Steidten in Brazilian to lead negotiations to bring the Brazilian international to the London Stadium, with Ekitike viewed as the best alternative.

Race for the signature

West Ham seem very keen to sign Alberto primality this summer as they look to reinforce their forward line and although they haven’t put all their eggs into one basket, their focus primarily seems to be on the Brazilian rather than Ekitike.

The Hammers have strengthened in basically every area of the pitch this summer and have spent the money they recouped from the sales of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca incredibly wisely and the final area of concern is up front.

Ekitike is an incredibly talented forward and at only 21 years old is a very desirable option, but he is still relatively raw in terms of experience, excelling during his time with Stade Reims but struggling to make a huge impact while at PSG.

The Irons will be hopeful they can bring at least one of their forward options to East London before the September 1 deadline and whether or not they’re beaten to the 21-year-old’s signature by Frankfurt, they will likely be stronger in attack than they were at the start of the summer, if only Alberto joins.
