Celtic 'reject £10million for Matt O'Riley' from Leeds as Hoops insist star is NOT for sale | The Scottish Sun

Celtic have reportedly rejected a £10m offer from Leeds United for Matt O’Riley.

The EFL Championship side have been linked with the midfielder throughout the summer, and it appears a move has been made to firm up that interest.

But Sky Sports say Celtic have no intention of letting the Denmark U-21 international leave, considering him key to Brendan Rodgers’ plans. With little over 24 hours remaining until the transfer deadline, the Premiership champions would have minimal time to strike a deal to replace him.

Having already received £25m from the sale of Jota to Al-Ittihad, and with substantial Champions League group stage funds already secured, Celtic will feel under no pressure to cash in on a player for whom they paid just £1.5m plus add-ons in January 2022.

O’Riley has been a revelation since joining from MK Dons during Ange Postecoglou’s reign, and he has remained a fixture in the starting XI since Rodgers returned to Glasgow in June.

His form in Glasgow has attracted admiring glances from a number of clubs, with Southampton also believed to be keeping a close eye on his progress. But with Celtic stressing to Leeds he is not for sale, the prospect of a departure at this stage seems remote.

Players may yet depart Parkhead before the window closes, but there will almost certainly be further incomings.

Rodgers has added two players to his squad already this week – Aris winger Luis Palma on a permanent deal and Liverpool’s Nat Phillips on-loan until January.

Benfica midfielder Paulo Bernardo has reportedly undergone a medical as he too closes in on a loan. He looks set to be confirmed as Celtic’s next acquisition ahead of Sunday’s derby clash with Rangers.
