Hot view;Star claims he would snub Liverpool and Tottenham even if they bid £100m.

Johan Bakayoko insists even a £100 million offer would not have tempted him away from PSV amid interest from Premier League giants Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

For a club used to losing star players each and every summer – big-money departures an annual tradition at the Phillips Stadium – Johan Bakayoko’s desire to stick around, build on an impressive breakthrough season and drag PSV Eindhoven back to the top of the Eredivisie mountain represents a very welcome, and particularly refreshing, change.

According to The Sun, both Newcastle and Tottenham looked into late deals for the quicksilver Belgium international. Liverpool made their interest known too, per Dutch reporter Rik Elfrink, while Everton and Burnley threw their respective hats into the ring before investing heavily on Beto and Mike Tresor.

“Of course, quite a lot has happened. It was busy around me,” Bakayoko admits, speaking to NOS. “But we managed to stay focused.

“I made that decision (to stay) at the beginning of the transfer window. Of course, when you get offers like that, people think you’re attracted to them. But I’ve never changed my mind.”

“My intention was to stay at PSV, to become champions here and to get as far as possible in the Champions League.”

Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham like Johan Bakayoko

Bakayoko’s dazzling display in the 5-1 dismantling of Rangers earned PSV a place in a very open and particularly ‘Europa Leaguey’ Group B, alongside Arsenal, Sevilla and RC Lens.

Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, believes that Brentford came the closest of anyone to agreeing a deal with PSV. The Bees offered up to £33 million. Even if Thomas Frank’s side had stumped up triple that amount, however, Bakayoko would have responded with a gracious but firm ‘no’

“Yes, (£33 million) is quite a high amount,” he adds with a laugh. “But I am a footballer and I focus on the field. They can offer forty, fifty or a £100 million.

“I have made the decision to stay.”
