Everton winger Demarai Gray is still pushing for an exit this summer with Al-Ettifaq trying to land the 27-year-old before their deadline.

The Premier League transfer window might have closed, but clubs from Saudi Arabia can continue to sign players until Thursday this week.

Gray has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park for some time, but his move to Al-Ettifaq has been held up by a range of factors.

The 27-year-old clearly wants out of Everton as he recently took to Instagram to take a swipe at Sean Dyche and the Everton hierarchy.

Gray posted the following statement on social media: “Everton fans have always been great with me, but it’s so difficult to play for someone who doesn’t respect you as a person.”

This has only fuelled the exit talk surrounding the Everton man and Ben Jacobs has provided the latest update on the wantaway star.

“Al-Ettifaq still trying for Demarai Gray despite Everton’s resistance,” Jacobs clarified. “Deal could still be possible for around £7m because Gray is pushing.

“Al-Ettifaq are also considering Wolves’ Pablo Sarabia as another option. Interest is concrete but there is no agreement yet with Sarabia.”

Everton holding up the deal

Gray is under contact with Everton until 2024, with the option of a further year in his contract. As the Premier League transfer window is now closed, Everton won’t have the change to replace Gray until January at the earliest.

This leaves the club in a tricky spot as the player clearly wants to leave, but they aren’t able to replace him at this time. Everton also lost Alex Iwobi to Fulham on deadline day which has left them even shorter in the final third.

Fabrizio Romano has provided some more clarity on the situation and has claimed that Gray’s relationship with Dyche is now at breaking point.

“From what I’m hearing, the conversation between Demarai Gray and Al Ettifaq is very advanced – he wants to go there, it’s a big offer and a big decision for him and his family,” Romano explained in his Daily Briefing.

“The problem for Gray is Everton. In the last two or three days, they decided to reject the proposal from Al Ettifaq, and the player is not at all happy with that.

“Let’s see how this story will continue, but I’m sure Gray will continue to push for the move – his relationship with Sean Dyche is now very bad, so I’m sure it’s time to go and to try to push for Everton to give the green light.”
