Away ticket news: Southampton

A director is going public and says Southampton went too far in signing negotiations – even asking for help to sell the club. Southampton were among the clubs interested in KRC Genk star Joseph Paintsil this summer. Last month, Belgium claim there were talks of a swap deal between the 25-year-old and Paul Onuachu, but the move did not materialize as the Ghana international did not want to join the Saints. Dimitri De Condé confirmed that claim in an interview with Het Belang van Limburg, where the technical director of Genk admits that he knew from the beginning that an exchange agreement between Paintsil and the Southampton player was not possible. De Condé is also unhappy with the way the Championship side have approached the winger. “I knew right away it was going to be almost impossible for the Paints to trade Onuachu,” he said.

Why Onuachu has struggled to score in England explained by Saints manager | SportsRation “But Southampton pushed until they went too far for me. We should have pushed Paintsil: push him to Southampton, like let him on the plane to Adana. Sorry, but that’s what I’m there for.” Southampton’s failure to sign the Paints affected the Jupiler Pro League side’s attempts to sign Onuachu and this did not sit well with De Condé. The 29-year-old Nigerian, who left Genk for an English club in January, wanted to return to his former club. According to the paper, Russell Martin’s parties changed their demands to let Onuachu off the hook. “I think it’s terrible, especially for Paul, who is going through a very difficult period. But it became clear to us three days before the European deadline that we had to change gears. We had different options, but of course the other destinations just didn’t appeal to us . Others were no longer allowed to leave,” explained De Condé. Trabzonspor are trying to sign the Southampton forward, according to the latest Turkish claims.
