Vincent Kompany has shared his admiration of Burnley’s “impressive” opponents on Sunday, Aston Villa.

The Claret’s boss will be looking to guide his side to their first Premier League win of the season after losing their opening game 3-0 against Manchester City. They did not play last weekend after their fixture at Luton was postponed due to essential stadium work taking place at Kenilworth Road.

Unai Emery’s team will be searching for a second successive league win after getting their season up and running with a 4-0 victory over Everton last week off the back of their 5-1 thrashing at Newcastle on the opening day of the season.

Villa will also have to contend with having played in mid-week, which is something they are almost certainly going to have to get used to after thrashing Hibernian 5-0 in the first-leg of their Europa Conference League play-off on Wednesday.

And former Man City captain Kompany has praised Villa for their recruitment whilst also sharing what he feels are the Villans’ strongest attributes ahead of their clash at Turf Moor on Sunday (kick-off 2pm).

“They’re an impressive squad,” he said. “You can see it’s one of these squads who’s settled in the Premier League now and they’ve been able to have a few rounds of recruitment and a few rounds of developing their own players.

“It’s a robust team – athletic, good speed, definitely worth being part of the discussion for that top eight in England, which is of such a high standard.”
