Carlos Corberan reveals his West Brom epiphany during Leeds United visit - Birmingham Live

Carlos Corberan will provide an update on Josh Maja as a new injury development for West Brom.
In his pre-game news conference at Watford on Tuesday, September 19, West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is expected to deliver an update on Josh Maja’s alleged injury, according to Birmingham Live.

The online UK news source (18 September) reports that it is anticipated that a firm update on Maja’s condition can be provided after he required assistance leaving the field during the 0-0 draw against Bristol City due to what appeared to be an ankle injury.

The Nigeria international was involved in a big talking point late on in the game as he was sent to the ground inside the box by Kai Naismith, but no penalty was awarded.

Maja appeared to sustain an injury in the challenge with Naismith, but the extent of the damage is unknown at this stage.

And according to Birmingham Live, Corberan is expected to address the situation in Tuesday’s press conference.

With Daryl Dike not expected to return from his long injury lay-off until at least December, West Brom only have Brandon Thomas-Asante and Maja as their specialist strikers.

Should Maja be out for an extended period of time then Corberan now faces a serious dilemma at the Hawthorns, similar to the injury crisis he endured last season.

Maja has yet to start a Championship game for Albion since arriving in the summer, with all five of his appearances to date coming from the substitutes’ bench.

Despite playing just 101 minutes of football for the Baggies, the 24-year-old’s quality has been clear to see at times especially with Thomas-Asante struggling to score consistently.

Indeed, Corberan described Maja as “excellent” following the stalemate in Bristol and claimed it would be difficult to find another striker at this level who is better at linking play.

The Baggies simply cannot afford to have Maja on the treatment table too, it may have damaging repercussions to their early Championship playoff statement, seeing as they currently sit 13th in the table.
