Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool better prepared for Europa League now than in 2016 | The Independent

This past summer, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made the decision to block a prospective loan transfer for defender Jarell Quansah.

This summer, Jarell Quansah was eligible for a loan out of Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp prevented it.

According to the Daily Mail, Klopp made the decision to prevent a loan exit for Quansah.

We’re used to seeing Liverpool deal with a lot of defensive injuries, which puts pressure on young or inexperienced players to step up.

Now it’s Quansah’s time as Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips immediately come to mind.

Due to Virgil van Dijk’s suspension, Joe Gomez has been forced to fill in at right back for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold.

That means Quansah has been needed at centre back with Klopp’s decision ultimately paying dividends.

It’s suggested that Quansah actually had ‘plenty of offers’ to leave Liverpool over the summer.

The 20-year-old spent time on loan at Bristol Rovers last season and he seemingly did enough to impress other clubs.

We wouldn’t be at all surprised if Championship clubs wanted to sign Quansah after showing his potential in League One.

Klopp clearly felt that Quansah could play a role in the first-team though and was better off sticking around at Anfield than heading away.

Quansah certainly impressed as a substitute against Newcastle United in August, before arguably being Liverpool’s best defender at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

Joel Matip’s contract expires in 2024 and Liverpool may well be tempted to utilise Quansah more, blooding him for the future.

Klopp has shown real faith in Quansah already; from blocking a loan move to throwing him into Premier League games.

Quansah – hailed as ‘excellent’ by Andy Robertson – is repaying Klopp’s faith right now and Liverpool fans are right to be excited about him.
