The Brighton player, who is wanted by Leicester City and Southampton seals, is moving to a new club The Swiss striker has been linked with a move away from Championship side Brighton but has now confirmed his next club Collage Maker-05-Sep-2023-11-13-AM-2905 It’s pretty common knowledge now that Brighton and Hove Albion are one of the best-run football clubs in England, and maybe even the world, and their progress over the last few years has been a lot of fun to watch. FOOTBALL LEAGUE DAILY VIDEO Much of this is not only due to their training but also their recruitment, with the club having a global scouting network which has seen them source talent not only from across Europe, but have also had strong success in South America. when Moises Caicedo and Julio Enciso arrive at the Amex Stadium. Of course, not all players will succeed at the Seagulls and others will have to find success outside the club to progress their careers. One player who hasn’t had much of a sniff for Roberto De Zerbi’s side since his arrival in 2020 is striker Andi Zeqiri. The Swiss striker joined from Stade-Lausanne four years ago, scoring 22 goals in all competitions last season and rising through the Swiss youth ranks. In his debut year at Albion, Zeqiri made 12 appearances, most of which came from the bench, and after just one game in the 2021–22 season, he was loaned out to Augsburg in Germany in January 2022. Zeqir, who found the back of the net just twice in 23 appearances for the Bundesliga side, then found a new loan club for the entire 2022-23 season and returned home to join Basel. The 24-year-old found a bit more luck in the Swiss Super League, scoring 11 times and scoring 18 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions, putting him on the transfer radar of many clubs over the summer. 2021-08-24T200401Z_503862263_UP1EH8O1JQN8R_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-CDF-BRH-REPORT According to Charlie Gordon of the Daily Express, Zeqiri has been linked with a number of Championship clubs, with Birmingham City, Leicester and Southampton as possible destinations for the eight-team squad. However, the September 1 transfer deadline came and went without a move for the striker, but a few days later his next club was confirmed. Where did Andi Zeqiri secure his move? With the Belgian transfer window still open, Genk have moved to secure the services of Zeqir. Genk, who finished second in the Belgian Pro League last season, have eyed a return for Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, who they sold to Southampton earlier this year. However, the deal did not materialize and their attention turned to Zeqir. Brighton confirmed the sale of Zeqir to Genk on Tuesday, penning a three-year deal with the Europa League side. Have Championship clubs lost a trick with Andi Zeqir? At over six feet tall, Zeqiri is a physical presence and would definitely fit in well in the bigs. He is also quite quick for his size and after playing well in front of goal for Basel, the goal-scoring confidence he showed at Stade-Lausanne a few years ago would undoubtedly have returned. Championship clubs were unsurprisingly interested, but Leicester, Southampton and Birmingham all signed new strikers in Tom Cannon, Ross Stewart and Jay Stansfield anyway, so despite not landing Zeqir they should all be good.
