Luton boss wants Town's players to feel 'unbeatable' at Kenilworth Road

Luton Town, a Premier League newcomer, is allegedly interested in signing Christian Walton from Ipswich Town as the Hatters continue their quest for a starting goalkeeper.

The 27-year-old was a prominent player for the Tractor Boys in their promotion to the Championship after finishing second in League One to Plymouth Argyle, the league champions.

Walton was a mainstay for Ipswich in the third tier and amassed the most shutouts in the division with 22 to help Kieran McKenna’s team allow only 35 goals in 46 league games. The former Wigan Athletic player has played all of his senior football in the EFL, but he may soon have the chance to prove his worth in England’s top division.

Alan Nixon of the newspaper Alan Nixon claims that Luton has added Walton to their list of potential goalkeeper hires for the 2023–24 season.

It is said that Tom Heaton, 37, was well-liked by Luton and would have been a welcome addition to Edwards’ team, but the former Burnley player is apparently planning to remain at Manchester United next year.

Despite the arrival of Andre Onana from Inter Milan in response to David De Gea’s departure from Old Trafford after 12 years, the Red Devils were allegedly “reluctant to let him leave” for Kenilworth Road or elsewhere during this transfer window.

During the weekend, Luton reportedly tried unsuccessfully to sign West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Alex Palmer, but the Baggies reportedly turned down an upfront offer for the youngster.
After hearing rumors that the 26-year-old’s transfer to the Premier League was almost certain,

He was not included in Carlos Corberan’s team that traveled to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday. It is said, though, that the Championship club rejected a proposal that was higher than £3 million.
Ipswich goalkeeper Walton is now the focus of Luton’s attention, although it is said that the player is already settled at Portman Road and is eager to play Championship football in East Anglia.

As the Hatters’ preseason schedule comes to an end, Edwards has no other choices for goaltending because James Shea and Matt Macey combined for just one league appearance in 2022–23.

This summer, Luton has recruited players from the EFL, including Tahith Chong and Chiedozie Ogbene from Rotherham United.

In order to create a club that can be dangerous on transitions in the top division, Ryan Giles has also transferred from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Kenilworth Road after impressing during a loan spell at Middlesbrough in the Championship last season.

On August 12, the Hatters will travel to Europa League-bound Brighton & Hove Albion, giving them less than a month to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper.
