Liverpool report £46m pre-tax loss - Punch Newspapers

Liverpool were struck by the cruelest of late blows as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this evening.

It was a game with no shortage of controversy, including red cards for Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, plus a questionable offside decision that saw a Luis Diaz goal ruled out.

Impressive showing before the break, particularly going forward, but Richarlison got in behind him to set up opener. Plenty of effort. Subbed.

Joel Matip 8

Wouldn’t have been impressed with some of the passes he received but remained composed, and superb second half until his unlucky own goal decider.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Solid enough in the defensive line as Tottenham began to crank up the pressure and assisted equaliser. Cleared so many balls in the second half.

Andy Robertson 7

Kept busy by Kulusevski defensively but held his own and provided a threat going forward, and prompted save from Vicario. Booked.

Alexis Mac Allister 7

Lack of suitability in the number six role exposed too often before break and bypassed at times. Second half was much better, especially considering he was on a booking. Subbed.

Dominik Szoboszlai 9

Directed many of Liverpool’s forward efforts with his long-range passing, one of which led to Gakpo goal. Stepped up brilliantly again in the second half. What a fighter.

Curtis Jones 6

Heavily involved and worked hard before his extremely contentious dismissal.

Mohamed Salah 7

Started well against Udogie but lost his way a little bit before very strong end to first half. Created chance for Diaz and worked so hard in the second half. Subbed.

Cody Gakpo 7

Had shot saved by Vicario but wasn’t able to keep hold of the ball often enough until brilliant turn and finish for leveller. Took a knock late on in first half. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 7

Began strongly and caused Tottenham problems on the left, and had goal curiously chalked off for offside. Missed big chance before break, though. Subbed.

Diogo Jota (for Gakpo 46) 4

Ran around a fair bit them committed two fouls on Udogie in quick succession and was dismissed for two yellow cards.

Wataru Endo (for Diaz 73) 7

Got stuck in immediately and some good touches in the air.

Ibrahima Konate (for Gomez 73) 6

Added to the rearguard effort.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (for Salah 74) 6

Tried to help Liverpool keep the ball.
