Nottingham Forest-owned Lewis O’Brien has confirmed on Instagram that he’s undergone surgery on his ankle. Following his post, he’s been sent well wishes from Orel Mangala, Cheikhou Kouyate and Brennan Johnson.

This comes as a huge body blow to Forest midfielder O’Brien. He was just starting to get back to his very best level on loan at Middlesbrough, with Michael Carrick handing him regular football.

Now, he faces a spell on the sidelines after going under the knife. At this stage, it’s not clear exactly how long O’Brien will be missing and he will hope to get back as quickly as possible.

Forest-owned O’Brien confirms surgery on Instagram

O’Brien had been playing in an unfamiliar role for Middlesbrough since moving from Forest. Carrick had seen something in him to suggest that he could play in a left-sided wing-back role for his team.

The 24-year-old will now want to make up for lost time when he does get a chance to return to the pitch. After his surgery, he received some words of encouragement from Forest players of past and present.
