According to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News), West Ham United are still interested in former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire as they are thinking of replacing Kurt Zouma.

The £30 million transfer of defender Harry Maguire to West Ham had fallen through with the player seemingly insistent on staying at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old’s pay increased significantly as a result of United’s Champions League qualification and that would not be the case at West Ham.

Since Maguire has lost his place under Erik ten Hag, United might have intended to generate money by selling him. He has two years left on his deal and made eight Premier League starts last season.

Maguire would have gotten a lot of game time in London. While some members of the club were not so sure about signing Maguire, Moyes convinced them to buy him; however, the deal was later cancelled.

If Maguire were to leave, Ten Hag may play Luke Shaw in centre defence like he did last season as a possible replacement. However, even this is to an extent looking impossible since Shaw is also out with an injury.

United now need Maguire more than ever. Considering the crisis our defence has at the moment, Maguire, Lindelof and Jonny Evans are the only options available. In fact, Amrabat has been playing in his unnatural position as a left-back. This has certainly hampered the team’s results.
