IS ANDRÉ THE JANUARY ANSWER TO LIVERPOOL’S MIDFIELD CONUNDRUM…?

André is a name that swirled around the Anfield gossip pages throughout the summer, as someone that the Liverpool recruitment team were apparently very keen on. A deal could not be struck in the preseason, essentially given his importance to his club side. The Fluminense central midfielder had been touted as the potential long-term successor to Thiago Alcantara, given the Brazilian’s technical ability and prowess on the ball. I get the sense that the reds’ interest remains the same and that a specialist defensive midfielder will be sought inclusive of that long-term target. The only issue is, however, that if the likes of Bruno Guimarães or Cheick Doucouré are indeed the men most wanted, then those first team ready additions may not be available until the summer of 2024. With that, it could leave a bigger problem in January, given that Wataru Endō is primed to head off to the Asia Cup in the new year, to participate in a tournament that could see the Japan captain absent for six weeks.
