Marshall University’s football program is being shaken up after season expectations have not been met.

Marshall head coach Charles Huff confirmed to 13 News that the football program parted ways with offensive coordinator Clint Trickett, wide receivers coach Jovon Bouknight, offensive line coach Bill Legg and linebackers coach Shannon Morrison.

Marshall’s Director of Athletics, Christian Spears, released the following statement on X (formerly Twitter) after Saturday’s win over Arkansas State:

Even though Marshall has one game left in the 2023 season, head coach Charles Huff told Eyewitness News on Sunday changes will be taking place among his staff.

Offensive coordinator Clint Trickett along with assistants Bill Legg, Shannon Morrison and Jovon Bouknight won’t be returning for the 2024 campaign.

Trickett is in his ninth year of coaching and third at Marshall. He played at both Florida State and West Virginia University as a quarterback. His coaching stops have included Florida Atlantic and East Mississippi Community College.

This was Legg’s third stop at Marshall, where he had also worked with head coaches Bobby Pruett and Doc Holliday. Legg, in year number 38 as a coach, was the associate head coach and offensive line leader.

Legg, a native of Poca, is a former West Virginia University standout lineman. He’s coached at WVU, Mercer, Mississippi State, Florida International, Purdue, VMI, Eastern Illinois and West Virginia Tech.

Morrison, a native of Oak Hill, starred as a defensive back for the Herd in the early 90s. He served as assistant head coach while also guiding the linebackers.

This marks his 29th year in coaching, with nine of those years coming at Marshall on two different occasions. His coaching resume features stints at Eastern Kentucky, Ball State, Cincinnati, Memphis, Bowling Green, Lehigh, Southeast Missouri, Hampden-Sydney and Sam Houston.
