Faith Kipyegon has been in the form of a lifetime in 2023 – a run that has seen her win the 2023 Women’s Athlete of the Year and also awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H.)
In 2023, Kipyegon broke the 1500m and 5000m world records – in one week – before storming to gold over both distances in the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

The girl from the serene Ndabibit village in Nakuru county who turns 30 on January 10, 2024, also boasts of the precious gold medals she earned in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Yet, amid Kipyegon’s remarkable achievements on the track, an unsung hero plays a pivotal role – her little-known husband, who stands by her side in her journey. Together, they are parents to a daughter named Alyn Kitum, born in 2018.

So, who is the enigmatic husband behind Kipyegon’s success?
Timothy Kitum is the lesser-known spouse of Faith Kipyegon, an accomplished elite runner himself. Although he may not have shattered the barriers of athletics to garner international acclaim as his wife has, Kitum remains an integral part of her support system.

“We have come very far and he has been very supportive in my career. In 2016 I dedicated the gold medal to him, he was still a boyfriend, and now he is a husband. He is a very special person. I want to thank him for allowing me to train six days a week at the camp,” Kipyegon said of her husband in an interview with TV47.
Kitum, who turned 29 on November 20, 2023, first represented Kenya on the global stage in 2011 during his participation in the World Youth Championship held in Lille, France.
Just a year later, he returned to the track for Kenya, securing a silver medal in the fiercely competitive 800m race at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain.

During the same remarkable year, he clinched the bronze medal in the men’s 800m race at the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the tender age of 18, he only came second to compatriot David Rudisha and Botswana’s Nigel Amos.
