– Pace University Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Tom Mariano has been hired as the new head coach of the Florida Launch of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), as announced by Launch President Brian Clinton on Wednesday. Mariano will continue his head coaching duties with the Setters while also taking on his new role as head coach of the Launch.

 

“This is a great opportunity to coach at the highest level of lacrosse, and the goal is to help both teams reach the highest level,” said Mariano. “I am looking forward to this tremendous opportunity.”

 

Mariano took over at Pace in 2014, and has led the Setters to a 25-20 record over his three years, including back-to-back winning seasons. He steered the Setters to the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championship, and helped Pace qualify for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament in each of the past two seasons. In 2016, the Setters earned an 11-6 overall record, the second-highest win total in program history. Mariano has also coached the Setters to national-ranking status numerous times.

 

Mariano’s previous professional coaching experience includes his most recent duties as associate head coach and offensive coordinator of the Chesapeake Bayhawks in 2016. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach and the director of player personnel for the Ohio Machine from 2013-15, and helped lead the Machine to the best record in franchise history at the time, and their first-ever postseason appearance. Prior to his experiences in the MLL and at Pace, Mariano was the head coach at Division I Sacred Heart University for 17 seasons.

There is no shortage of talent on our roster and with a leader like Tom, we will be able to compete with every team in this league.”

 

The Florida Launch played its inaugural season in 2014, and was led by Head Coach Stan Ross to a 13-29 overall record over the franchise’s first three seasons in the league. Mariano will take over as the second head coach in the franchise’s short history. Mariano will take on coaching duties immediately in preparation for the MLL Supplementa
