Here are our takeaways from the 15th practice of training camp on Thursday.
Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy return sooner than expected: Rookies Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy each suffered ankle injuries in camp this week, which made it doubtful they would be in practice the rest of the week.
Yet, both were back out on Thursday.
Nabers was a full participant in practice, and coach Brian Daboll said there’s a chance he plays on Saturday. He left practice Sunday with a low ankle sprain and missed Monday and Tuesday. It was originally thought he would miss at least all of this week. On Thursday, everything appeared OK for the Giants’ No. 1 receiver.
Tracy was carted off the field in an air cast on Tuesday after a non-contact ankle injury during a kickoff drill. It was revealed to be a low ankle sprain and not as serious as feared.
Tracy didn’t participate in installs or team periods with the offense, but he looked OK in mobility drills and didn’t have any support or tape on his ankle. It’s unlikely he will play on Saturday.
Secondary shuffles: Starting corners Cor’Dale Flott (quad) and Dru Phillips (ankle) missed their fourth straight practice on Thursday, making it unlikely they play on Saturday.
As the Giants have done in their absence, backup nickel Nick McCloud moved outside, with David Long and Alex Johnson splitting time inside. Johnson, an undrafted free agent, picked off Tommy DeVito late in practice.
Rookie safety Tyler Nubin appeared to have taken over the starting free safety spot. The Giants’ second-round pick in this year’s draft missed almost the whole first week of training camp with a calf injury, but since returning has continued to catch up with the rest of the defense. On Thursday, it was he and Jason Pinnock who started, when before it was typically Belton starting.
