They can expect franchise stars Ronald Acuña Jr., Spencer Strider and Austin Riley to all return, with Chris Sale, Reynaldo López and Marcell Ozuna set to build on their strong seasons. So president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos is left to manage the margins of the roster and keep an eye out for any impact additions that might aid a deep postseason run.

Writing for FanSided’s “House That Hank Built,” Chase Owens predicted that will include parting ways with utility man Cavan Biggio, who was picked up by the Braves in September and is now projected for a $4.3 million salary set by arbitration.

“This will probably be Anthopoulos’ least stressful decision,” Owens wrote, listing Biggio as a player the Braves will non-tender. “Biggio was acquired off the scrap-heap after the Braves continued to get plummeted with injuries. The service time he racked up with Toronto now lends itself to a higher projected arb number. And anything in seven figures is something the Braves can’t justify for a minor league depth infielder.”

Biggio began the season on the Toronto Blue Jays, where he had played since 2019, before he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in June after being designated for assignment. He was released by August, joined the San Francisco Giants and then was traded to the Braves.

Across all of his big-league at-bats in 2024, he slashed .197/.314/.303. In five at-bats for the Braves, he logged one hit and two strikeouts. He did not make the Braves’ playoff roster.

With Biggio set to move on to free agency, the Braves might be looking for more of a blockbuster infield addition while moving Orlando Arcia into a bench role.

“Atlanta will very happily keep Arcia around as a versatile backup for two more years at a combined cost of $4M, but they’re going to be at the top of the list of teams bidding for Willy Adames’ services,” Kerry Miller predicted for Bleacher Report.
