Alabama Crimson Tide lands commitment from…

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Tennessee Vols could stand the cold but they could not take the heat from the Ohio State Buckeyes. Many Alabama Crimson Tide fans are loving the result as the Vols crashed to a 42-17 defeat in the CFP First Round.

Even some Alabama football fans who detest Ohio State found it easy to pull for the Buckeyes against the Crimson Tide’s oldest intense rival. The Crimson Tide and the Vols have played every season but one since 1928. Josh Heupel is 2-2 against the Crimson Tide as Tennessee’s head coach. The losses were bad enough, but worse was all the hoopla that proclaimed Heupel as the latest manifestation of an Offensive Football Wizard.

Saturday night in Columbus, Heupel got his comeuppance. Tennessee fans are aghast and angry, pointing fingers of blame directly at Heupel. As All for Tennessee’s Braulio Perez explained, “Josh Heupel let everyone down in Tennessee’s embarrassing loss.” Braulio added that no excuses can justify the game’s outcome. Heupel’s offensive wizardry produced 16 yards in the game’s first quarter; while Ohio State’s offense produced 205 yards and a 21-0 lead.

Ohio State had a good game plan and Heupel failed to adjust successfully. Whatever changes Heupel made at halftime, the Vols scored no points in the third quarter while Ohio State poured on two more touchdowns. Tennessee fans were streaming out of the stadium before the third quarter ended.

Also writing for All for Tennessee, Colton Pickard reminded Tennessee fans how much progress Heupel has made in Knoxville. Though Pickard did title a story stating the Vols were a “no-show” in Columbus. Pickard is correct and Heupel will not be an SEC ‘hot-seat’ head coach next season. Tennessee has a favorable 2025 schedule and should be the favorite in nine or ten games. Georgia in Knoxville and road games to Tuscaloosa and Gainesville are the big threats, but an SEC schedule that includes Mississippi State, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt should produce easy wins.

Alabama Crimson Tide fans will be primed for Tennessee’s Oct. 18 visit to Bryant-Denny. Alabama football fans are comparing Heupel unfavorably as a Hugh Freeze-like Offensive Guru wanna-be, with more girth. In reality, Heupel uses novel offensive schemes beyond anything in the Freeze playbook. Like all schemes, the Heupel wizardry fails when the opponent owns the trenches.
