Breaking news:5 star committed to Florida state Seminoles football over…
Florida State football recruiting: Live updates from National Signing Day
National signing day is here and Florida State football is set to add more names to its 2025 recruiting class.
The Seminoles currently hold commitments from offensive linemen Chavez Thompson and Chastan Brown alongside legacy defensive back Antonio Cromartie Jr.
FSU was active in the early signing period, landing 20 commitments from the high school ranks to add to the 16 transfers brought into the program by head coach Mike Norvell. With the majority of the top prospects off the board, the Seminoles remain in consideration of one of the nation’s top edge rushers.
Zahir Mathis is a 4-star recruit out of Imhotep Insitute in Maryland and he is set to announce his college decision Wednesday afternoon, deciding between the Seminoles and the University of Maryland. He is ranked as the 114th best player in the nation and 12th best EDGE according to 247Sports composite rankings.
As signing day takes place, the Tallahassee Democrat’s Liam Rooney will provide live updates on all the happenings.

Norvell released a statement upon the finalization of the Seminoles 2023 recruiting class.
He said that the group has great potential and he’s excited about the traits each player brings to the program.
Here is the full statement:
“I’m very excited to add these three, who all have great potential to develop within our program,” Norvell said. “Chastan has tremendous length and athletic ability, which he showcased on the football field and the basketball court as a two-sport standout. He brings elite measurables with a huge upside to our offensive line. Antonio was a productive player on one of the top teams in the state of Georgia. I’ve watched him grow over the last few years and believe his best football is still in front of him. Sandman (Chavez) has played at a very high level throughout his career. He has a chance to grow into the center position with his toughness, physicality and great leadership.”
3:05 p.m. | 4-star Zahir Mathis commits to Maryland over FSU
The Seminoles were in the final two of the 4-star edge, however, despite a late push FSU couldn’t pull off a surprise.
Mathis elected to stay closer to home and commit to Maryland.
The Seminoles end the 2025 recruiting class with 23 signees.
2 p.m. | Seminoles finalize third commitment with 4-star Chastan Brown signing
The Seminoles made Brown’s commitment official and he rounds out the 2025 recruiting class for FSU.
Brown was initially committed to UCF and then head coach Gus Malzahn. When Malzahn decided to take FSU’s offensive coordinator role, Brown decommitted from the Knights and opened his recruitment.
FSU was quick to offer and eventually, the relationship with Malzahn helped the Seminoles land the 6-foot-7 4-star offensive lineman.
11:30 a.m. | FSU football officially signs 3-star Chavez Thompson
The Seminoles’ second signing of the day comes from Cocoa High School.
Thompson flipped his commitment from Florida International University to FSU in January after he took a weekend visit with the Seminoles.
He projects as a center for the program. He is the third high school offensive line signing.
9:35 a.m. | Seminoles officially add 3-star defensive back Antonio Cromartie Jr.
The first confirmed signing of the day for the Seminoles is the 3-star legacy defensive back. Cromartie Jr. committed to the program after a visit in January and he is now officially following in the footsteps of his father.
He recorded 85 tackles, four forced fumbles, four pass breakups and one interception in his senior season for Carrollton (Georiga).
Cromartie Jr. is the third defensive back to sign for FSU in the 2025 recruiting class, joining Gregory “Zae” Thomas and Shamar Arnoux.
Where does FSU football’s recruiting class rank in the ACC, nationally
The Seminoles class is currently ranked second in the ACC, only trailing in-state rival Miami in the 247Sports composite industry rankings.
