South Carolina basketball portal target Kymora Johnson staying at Virginia
COLUMBIA — Kymora Johnson took a visit to South Carolina women’s basketball but decided to withdraw her name from the transfer portal and return to Virginia.
Johnson averaged 19.5 points (second in ACC), 5.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game this season and hasn’t averaged less than 15.2 points a season since getting to college.
She announced the news on April 17, saying “same place, same purpose” with a picture of her as a kid in a UVA hat.
The 5-foot-7 guard is from Charlottesville, Virginia, but went into the portal after UVA fired coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton. Virginia has since hired Richmond’s Aaron Roussell as its next coach.

Johnson visited South Carolina the first week the portal opened, per a source who did not wish to be identified but her deciding to stay at her hometown school doesn’t come as a surprise.
