Dawn Staley Reveals What She Wants to See From Jordan Lee
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dawn Staley has a simple message for new South Carolina guard Jordan Lee: be more aggressive.
Lee made her first appearance in a South Carolina uniform on Sept. 27, scoring 15 points while shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range in the Gamecocks’ 91–60 exhibition victory over College of Charleston.
Despite the impressive shooting display, Staley believes Lee can have an even bigger offensive impact.
“We’d like Jordy to be probably, she made four threes, even a little bit more aggressive,” Staley said after the exhibition.
Staley’s point isn’t simply about taking more three-pointers. She wants Lee to put the ball on the floor, attack defenses and look for opportunities to score rather than automatically searching for a pass.
“We want her to score the basketball,” Staley said.
The expectation comes after Lee spent her first two college seasons at Texas, where she helped the Longhorns reach two Final Fours and win the 2026 SEC Tournament before transferring to South Carolina.
Lee wasn’t the only Gamecock to impress in the exhibition. Joyce Edwards scored 28 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, while Tessa Johnson added 23 points.
For Staley, however, the early exhibition was about more than the final score. It provided an opportunity to see what the new-look Gamecocks need to improve before the regular season.
And for Lee, the message from her coach is clear: don’t hesitate. Shoot it, attack and play your game.
South Carolina opens its regular season against Maryland on Nov. 2 in Paris.
