Gonzaga, Texas Tech headline Lobo women’s nonconference basketball s
UNM’s Vianè Cumber, center, and the Lobos will host 11 nonconference home games in 2024-25.
Home, they say, is where the heart is and it’s where the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team will play early and often in 2024-25.
The Lobos released the nonconference portion of their upcoming schedule Wednesday with 11 of 13 games (along with two exhibitions) to be played in the Pit. It’s balanced otherwise, with several games against 2023-24 postseason qualifiers, rivalry contests and some matchups in which UNM will likely be heavily favored.

The Lobos will return to a home-and-home series with Rio Grande rival New Mexico State in 2024-25 — though it’s likely to be a one-year arrangement. Mountain West men’s basketball went to a 20-game league schedule for this season while women’s teams will stick with an 18-game format. MWC women are expected to switch to 20 league games in 2025-26.
“If that happens, we’ll go back to playing New Mexico State once,” Bradbury said. UNM and NMSU will meet just once in men’s basketball this season.
Other top games on UNM’s nonconference women’s schedule for this season will include the season-opener against Northern Arizona, a late-November matchup against UC Irvine and meetings with Sacramento State and Abilene Christian in the pre-Christmas Lobo Invitational.
NAU went 25-10 last season and played in the Postseason WNIT, while UC Irvine was 23-9 and earned an NCAA berth, falling to Gonzaga in the opening round.
