One of the most fascinating stories in college football in 2024 is the Indiana University Hoosiers racing from decades of oblivion to challenging the upper echelons of the sport.

 

On Saturday November 23, No. 5-ranked Indiana take on No. 2 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio in a crucial game for college football supremacy. It will help determine whether the Hoosiers make the 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024.

IU Head Coach Curt Cignetti has built a winning attitude to help turn a perennial Big Ten loser into a team capable of challenging for the National Championship.

The shoot was for potential football recruits to use when they make their decision to join IU Football.

It’s another example of how universities and colleges are getting more creative when it comes to engaging a new generation of talent, especially one that is heavily digital in nature.

 

Incredible Turnaround For IU Football

Prior to the season, Indiana was picked to finish 17th in the expanded Big Ten. But under Cignetti’s new approach, it has turned out to be a very historic and successful season for the Hoosiers.

 

The idea of the combining an Indy car and the Hoosiers was to do something fun and unique that very “Indiana” and also represented the new aggressive and speedy style of football IU wanted to play.

Several players have utilized the photos. Davion Chandler announced his commitment to IU by posting himself laying in front of the show car with his IU helmet and a “home” emoji. And just last weekend, four-star recruit Byron Baldwin announced his commitment to IU utilizing the car imagery in a cross-post with several media outlets including Barstool and on3r

ecruits.

 

The post included a special graphic with an Indy car stretching across Memorial Stadium and also one of the original photos from the shoot. It has more than 35 thousand likes and 300 comments beneath it.

IndyCar is focused on growing its relevancy in a very digital world and expanding its reach with core sports fans. This unique effort and collaboration with Indiana football fits within both of those core strategies. It’s the first time IndyCar has done a collab like this with an athletic department.
