Five-star offensive tackle David Sanders, the top uncommitted prospect in the 2025 class, committed to Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, landing with the Volunteers as the top-ranked prospect in the program’s rising 2025 recruiting class and the highest-rated pledge of the Josh Heupel era.

 

Tennessee beat Ohio State, Nebraska and Georgia in the chase for the No. 4 recruit in the 2025 ESPN 300, securing Sanders’ pledge in the latest of a series of high-profile summer commitments for the Volunteers.

 

 

Sanders, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound blocker from Charlotte, North Carolina, enters his senior season at Charlotte’s Providence Day School as the reigning North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year after leading the program to its third straight NCISAA state title in 2023.

 

By the time David Sanders entered his junior season of high school football, he racked up more than 100 scholarship offers. With all the attention that comes with being a top target, it would be easy to lose focus. Yet, Sanders said his parents keep him grounded. “My parents keep me very humble,” Sanders told the Charlotte Observer. “We try to keep sports talk out of the house because I’ve got three younger sisters, and they don’t to hear about football every two seconds.” Sanders originally arrived at Providence Day School with dreams of playing basketball in college instead of football. But it didn’t take him long to figure out the gridiron is his future. “It takes about 15 seconds to watch him do anything, and you go, ‘He’s different,’” Providence Day coach Chad Grier told the Observer. “But what makes him special is how grounded and humble and respectful he is. He’s just a great human. He’s got that million-dollar smile, and he was raised by great parents. He wants to be an orthopedic surgeon. He’s almost too good to be true, and I’ve never been around one like him. I almost don’t want to say it.
