The Ohio State football program is on Cloud Nine right now. They took down the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl 28-14 to advance to the National Championship Game. They have a chance to win it all by beating Notre Dame next Monday in Atlanta.

It’s a great time to be a Buckeye right now. Jack Sawyer had one of the greatest plays in Ohio State history to seal the win. As a former five-star recruit, he has really lived up to his billing in the last few games. The present looks pretty good for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The future looks bright for the Buckeyes as well. Ryan Day and his staff were able to sign another top-five recruiting class this season. One of the recruits they grabbed was Quincy Porter, a four-star recruit from New Jersey. He participated in the US Army All-American Bowl on Saturday afternoon.

Porter is going to be the next great Ohio State receiver in a long line of them. He has great hands, excellent awareness, and is able to get open with ease. He showed all of those things in this one play against some of the best defensive players in the country.

While the Buckeyes are more focused on the present and winning a national championship this season, they have to be happy knowing that Porter is going to help them compete for championships in years to come. He’s not the only great recruit they have coming in next season.

This will be Ohio State’s 58th bowl game – and their fourth appearance in the Cotton Bowl. The Buckeyes are no strangers to Arlington – they were beaten 14-3 in last year’s bowl game and will be keen to make up for that. It leaves their Cotton Bowl record at 2-1, having won the 1987 and 2017 editions. Overall, the program’s bowl game record is 28-29, with 34 appearances in the “big four” games.

In terms of national titles, Ohio State have won the College Football National Championship a total of eight times, four of them shared with other programs (1954, 1957, 1961 and 1970).

Ohio State’s first national title arrived in 1942. The team picked up the Associated Press Trophy after finishing with a 9-1 record.
