The college football carousel is set to heat up as the season moves into November this weekend. A few coaches were already fired in October.

Despite recent success, one SEC coach appears to be on the hot seat.

The Florida Gators started the 2024 campaign with a 1-2 record, both defeats coming by double-digits to Miami and Texas A&M. Those losses don’t look as bad now, as both teams are in the top 10.

Florida has won three of its last four games, with the third loss a 23-17 thriller against Tennessee that ended in overtime at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee is now ranked No. 7.

The Athletic’s Kennington Smith III has Florida head coach Billy Napier on the hot seat

heading into November. Smith thinks that while the Gators players are still giving it their all for Napier, the program needs a signature win for the coach to earn a fourth season in 2025.

“Florida’s four wins came against three sub-.500 teams and FCS Samford,” Smith wrote. “Florida doesn’t have a win over a team above .500 in Napier’s past 16 games and just two in his tenure: South Carolina in 2022 and Tennessee in 2023 (the Gators did beat Utah in the 2023 opener, and the Utes finished that season 10-4). Its 2025 recruiting class is just 50th nationally, according to 247Sports.
