with divided loyalties for Florida’s game vs Texas A&M
A Gator legend is back in town for Florida’s game Saturday afternoon vs Texas A&M.
When given the opportunity, he didn’t go with his Alma Mater vs the Aggies.
Emmitt Smith, Florida running back from 1987-1989, picked TAMU over UF on SEC Nation this morning from Plaza of the Americas.
Smith’s, whose son – EJ – plays for the Aggies, said he couldn’t go against his own blood.
You can see the clip of Smith choosing Texas A&M below.
Smith will be the honorary “Mr. Two Bits” for Saturday’s game.
The Pensacola native is back for a UF game for the first time in five years. He served as the guest picker on College Gameday in 2019 when Florida hosted Auburn.
He criticized the university back in March for its decision to eliminate all Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
Prior to that, Smith was on campus in January for a photoshoot and to award QB DJ Lagway the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year. Smith, while at Escambia High School, earned the same prize in 1987.
Smith has lived in Dallas since retiring from the NFL in 2004. He spend much of his pro career with the Cowboys, where he became the NFL’s all-time leading rusher.
