Pro Football Focus has officially announced their Power Five starting quarterback rankings and they are good. They have a lot of top-tier quarterbacks near the top and even a few surprises higher than some would rank them.

Since they are ranking starting quarterbacks, Avery Johnson is on this list, but he is pretty low. PFF has Johnson ranked 37th out of 70 starting Power Five quarterbacks.

Now this makes some sense because Johnson has never started and played an entire season, but he has shown a lot of greatness in the short amount of time he has been on the field. Johnson has clearly shown he can run the ball well, now he just needs to impress with his arm, which he is so capable of.Avery Johnson.

The mix of Johnson, DJ Giddens, and Dylan Edwards makes a scary three-headed rushing monster that could scare a lot of defenses. however, Johnson needs to prove he can do it all. He may not have to constantly throw the ball because of the rushing attack the Wildcats have, but he has to show his versatility.

While there is understanding as to why Johnson is ranked so low, he has also shown a lot, especially in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. While his rushing attack was big, Johnson made some big throws when it counted most. That was also back when he didn’t have all the attention on him.

Now with an entire offseason of working with coaches and the first team, Johnson has everything in his favor this season to take the college football scene by storm. PFF better be ready to rank Johnson higher by the end of the season because all he needs is more motivation to prove people wrong.
