Breaking news; Aggressive’ Edwin Diaz announce his resignation and departure leaving Mets ..
After a gut-punch loss on Wednesday night that saw closer Edwin Diaz give up a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning, the Mets had only a few hours to stew on the defeat and be ready for the next day.
“They’re resilient, they want it,” manager Carlos Mendoza said before the game. “We’ve been here before, we have some tough losses and we’ve shown the ability to bounce back. You gotta give them credit, staying in the moment of forget about what happened the day before, not worry about what’s in the future, just making sure we do what we need to do to take care of business today. And that’s the mentality.”
Huge, huge win, especially the way we did it,” Mendoza said after Thursday’s 3-2 win, to grab a series win over the D-backs. “Overall, a great team win, especially after the way we lost the game last night.”
If there was any trepidation about sending out the closer, who lost the role earlier this year when he experienced some similar issues, Mendoza didn’t indicate any.
“In order for us to get to where we wanna get, we need him,” the manager said. “And he’s gonna continue to get the opportunity. He’s our closer, he’s one of our guys and I’m proud of him, I’m glad he got the job done.”
And the faith of the manager and his teammates counts.
