Alabama Crimson Tide superstar wide receiver Ryan Williams went viral on Wednesday for his orange-painted nails.
The viral photo immediately raised some questions since Williams and the Crimson Tide are coming off a loss to the Tennessee Vols.
On Wednesday night, Williams joined Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and Crimson Tide play-by-play man Chris Stewart on the Hey Coach Show and he was asked about his orange nails.
Williams explained that his little sister enjoys painting his nails before clarifying that the orange this week isn’t to support Tennessee.
“Starting my sophomore year of high school, my little sister she decided that she really liked doing nails,” said Williams. “And first she started with my mom and [then] she wanted to try on me. So, I was just like, I’m comfortable in my own skin. It didn’t really bother me. I think the first time it was just clear. Now she’s more confident and gotten so much better every week. Anytime she can, she tries to come up here before the game and do them for me. And she just loves to do them.”
“Oh no doubt, no doubt,” added Williams when asked if the orange nails have helped provide motivation during practice this week. “A couple of the guys, they got fired up at me. They thought it was for the opposing team.”
I’m sure Vols fans wouldn’t mind seeing Williams in orange in 2025 — he’s an elite talent that would help any team in the nation — but it sounds like the orange nails this week were simply his little sister’s color of choice (perhaps for Halloween?).
