Breaking news: Arizona state sun devil’s head coach has finally Aworld a world wide receiver Jayden Daniels with £100 due to his….
Arizona State will be without one of its top offensive playmakers for Saturday’s Big 12 championship game against Iowa State, a significant blow for the Sun Devils as they fight for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Receiver Jordyn Tyson suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday’s win over rival Arizona. Coach Kenny Dillingham did not go into detail during Monday’s weekly news conference other than to say Tyson would be out indefinitely.
Like the 10-2 Sun Devils, Tyson had enjoyed a breakout season, establishing himself as one of the country’s top receivers. He’ll be difficult to replace.
Tyson averaged 148 receiving yards over his last three games, which included a 144-yard effort against Arizona. The chemistry he established with quarterback Sam Leavitt was a team strength. After Arizona State’s win over Kansas State on Nov. 16, Kansas State coach Chris Klieman called Tyson the best receiver he had seen this season.
In 12 games, the 6-foot-1 redshirt sophomore had 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns, each number ranking among the top 20 in the country.
The injury occurred late in the third quarter of Saturday’s 49-7 win. On first down from the ASU 19, Tyson was flagged for holding, negating a strong run from teammate Cam Skattebo. On the next play, Leavitt threw a quick pass to Tyson on the perimeter. Tyson ran 6 yards before Arizona safety Genesis Smith and linebacker Taye Brown brought him down, both defenders landing on top of the receiver.
Tyson stayed on the Arizona Stadium turf in obvious pain. He watched the rest of the game with his left arm in a sling. In the contest’s final minutes, Arizona State’s medical staff met with Tyson’s parents outside the visitors’ locker room.
Arizona State’s offense is built around Skattebo, the nation’s No. 7 rusher, but Tyson provided balance and big-play potential. The Sun Devils do not have much depth behind him. Skattebo is the team’s second-leading receiver with 35 catches for 468 yards. Tight end Chamon Metayer has 28 catches for 285 yards and five touchdowns.
Arizona State’s next productive receiver is Xavier Guillory, who has great speed but hasn’t caught more than two passes in a game since a Sept. 21 loss at Texas Tech. Guillory averages 17.1 yards
per catch.
