The Florida Gators may have a quarterback controversy brewing
After a 41-17 loss to Miami in Week 1, a tough situation was made worse when starting quarterback Graham Mertz suffered a concussion and was ruled out for Week 2 against Samford.
In came true freshman DJ Lagway and the results were explosive.
While Samford isn’t a powerhouse program, it was still the best opponent that Lagway has received a start against. He quickly got up to speed, going 18-of-25 for 456 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 16 yards on five carries in the 45-7 Gators win.
This was a significant improvement from his limited action in Week 1 after Mertz went down and his play does promote a thought about Mertz being demoted to the backup role when he is
healthy.
