Keelon Russell is a highly acclaimed American football quarterback known for his exceptional skills and leadership on the field. Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 192 pounds, he hails from Duncanville, Texas, where he played for Duncanville High School under coach Reginald Samples.
Throughout his high school career, Russell earned unanimous five-star recruit status from major recruiting outlets. He was recognized as the top quarterback and the 14th overall player nationally by ESPN, and similarly ranked as the top player in Texas and among the top quarterbacks by Rivals.com and 247Sports.
In his senior year, Russell threw for over 3,000 yards and nearly 50 touchdowns, adding more than 250 rushing yards and multiple scores. He led Duncanville to consecutive 6A Division 1 UIL state championships in 2022 and 2023.
Initially committed to Southern Methodist University (SMU) in September 2023, Russell flipped his commitment to the University of Alabama in June 2024. He cited Alabama’s consistent interest and the football opportunities it offers as key factors in his decision, despite receiving substantial NIL offers from other schools.
Russell’s impact extended beyond individual accolades; his partnership with wide receiver Dakorien Moore made Duncanville’s offense particularly formidable. Together, they led the team to significant victories, including a 34-12 win over South Oak Cliff, where Russell accounted for 325 passing yards and five total touchdowns.
In September 2024, Russell delivered a standout performance in a narrow 28-24 victory over St. Frances Academy, completing 20 of 26 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for another score.
