Mercedes have confirmed that Kimi Antonelli will drive George Russell’s car in FP1 at this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. Antonelli is widely expected to replace Lewis Hamilton next year and will get an opportunity to impress at the iconic Monza circuit.

In a statement released on Monday, it was confirmed that Antonelli will be making his FP1 debut this weekend with George Russell sitting out. Mercedes also said that Hamilton would miss a session later in the year to give Antonelli another chance behind the wheel.

Reacting to the news, Antonelli said: “Taking part in my first FP1 is going to be really special. I’m really excited to drive the W15 and share the track with so many amazing drivers. I can’t wait for it.”
