Breaking news: the BYU cougars head coach has finally arrived a 5-star defensive player from Philadelphia
The calendar has turned to 2025 and the
Big 12 football schedule has not been unveiled yet. However, history suggests it will be unveiled by the end of the month.
The 2023 Big 12 schedule was released on January 31, 2023. The 2024 Big 12 schedule was unveiled on January 30, 2024. Both of those schedules were released on a Tuesday. If that trend holds, the Big 12 will be releasing the 2025 schedule soon. If the Big 12 releases the schedule on the final Tuesday in January, like they have the last two years, that would be on the 28th of January.
The opponents on the 2025 schedule are already known at this point. The timing of the opponents and bye weeks remains to be seen. Here’s what we know about the 2025 BYU schedule at this point.
Non-Conference Schedule
BYU’s non-conference schedule is already locked and loaded.
8/30/25 – vs Portland State
BYU kicks off the 2025 season at home against Portland State. That game, in all likelihood, will be almost identical to BYU’s season opener against Southern Illinois. It will likely kickoff at 6 PM Mountain Time.
9/6/25 – vs Stanford
BYU will host Stanford in Provo for just the second time ever and the first time since 2003. This will be an opportunity for BYU to make a statement against an ACC opponent.
9/20/25 – at East Carolina
This is a game that will be controversial on the schedule. BYU will travel across the country to play an above average G6 team in East Carolina – on the road. The Pirates are coming off a bowl victory over NC State. The date of this game is also worth monitoring when the official schedule is released. BYU will likely play a conference game on 9/13/25 before taking a break from conference play to play this game.
These are the kinds of games that BYU should not schedule in the future.
Conference Schedule
The dates of BYU’s conference schedule have not been announced, but the opponents have. BYU will play five road games in conference play. We’ll sta
rt with the home games.
8/30/25A co-captain in 2024, Kelly was named Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Transfer of the Year (College Football Network). He was also an All-Big 12 First Team selection (College Football Network, 2024).
Kelly will be returning alongside fellow linebackers and underclassmen Isaiah Glasker and Harrison Taggart. The trio remains one of BYU’s strongest position units and it will look to replicate the success of this past season in 2025 as the Cougars look to claim the Big 12 championship.
The linebacker from Kearns, Utah, will look to lead the Cougars again after they finished No. 1 in the Big 12 in total defense and scoring defense. BYU also led the FBS with 22 interceptions in 2024.
Kelly, a transfer from Weber State, made his impact on the field felt by becoming the BYU record-holder for most quarterback hurries in a single season with 14. Kelly led the Cougars in sacks (five) and forced fumbles (two) this season, while also tallying 50 total tackles.
