Combining the transfer portal additions and junior college signings, a significant majority of non-high school additions to the roster are defensive players.
But roster turnover on its own won’t turn around a defense that gave up over 500 yards a game last season.
So what will it take to fix the Cowboy defense? Here are three key areas of attack:
As previously mentioned, the Cowboys cleaned house on the coaching staff and have added more than a dozen prospects with college experience, from virtually every level — junior college, Division II, FCS, Group of 5 and Power 4.
Nearly all of the portal additions on defense are guys who have three or more years of college experience behind them, so they shouldn’t be surprised by much of what they see.
