Martin is listed as a 3 Star ILB on 247sports, but it appears Scott Satterfield and staff are planning to use him as a TE/H-Back. Martin was previously committed to East Carolina and also had offers from Wofford and Coastal Carolina.

Martin, at 6’1 235 lbs, fits the mold of what Satterfield likes in his H-back/TE. An athletic, quick player that is a good blocker. He played some H-Back/FB in high school and he was asked to do some running. Martin can catch some passes and will be asked to do that in short yardage and goal line situations.

What Martin will bring to UofL is exactly what Scott Satterfield wants from his TE/H-Back. The end of Martin’s highlights are full of him being a lead blocker in the running game. He will be doing a lot of that and it’s something you can tell from his highlights he enjoys it.

With a head of steam, he can identify his blocking assignment and drive the defender back and sometimes pancake them. He knows how to position himself and seal off the hole or the edge to allow running lanes for the RB.

The very first highlight shows he can be a threat in the passing game. It’s a little play action pass. He fakes like he’s going to block and then leaks out to the flat. The QB delivers the pass and Martin turns catches the pass with his hands, not his body, breaks a couple tackles, and takes it to the house.

Duane Martin is a tough blocking TE/H-Back that can catch passes. He has some speed and athleticism to be a playmaker in the passing game and could possibly do some running if the coaching staff asked him to. Think of him as a FB type of player, however. He’s going to be one of the guys paving the way for the RB to score a TD. He will be utilized in the passing game as Satterfield utilizes his TEs and H-Backs in short yardage and goal line situations. With the ball in his hands, he can be a playmaker.

With Martin’s commitment, UofL’s class is now at 15 commits and ranked 24th in the nation on 247sports. With at least 10 more spots left, UofL has the chance to end this recruiting cycle with an unbelievable class considering all that’s happened.
