Racing for Ferrari is a lifelong dream for Hamilton
Whilst Carlos Sainz will be the unlucky driver who is forced out of the Scuderia, Hamilton’s arrival will allow the British driver to fulfil a lifelong dream to race for the Italian team.
Although, they have fallen on hard times of late, having not won a single drivers’ championship since Kimi Raikkonen narrowly beat a rookie Hamilton to the crown in 2007.
Managerial missteps have plagued the team ever since, despite the fact they work with one of the biggest budgets in motorsport.
It’s not too dissimilar a situation to when Michael Schumacher arrived into the team back in 1996 with the team then on a 17-year barren spell since Jody Scheckter won the world championship with the Italian giants.
That worked out rather well for all involved, although it did mean Ferrari handing over a lot of their race-autonomy to Schumacher. The team will likely have to do the same with Hamilton, who is desperate to win another world title.
