Shane Beamer donte $150 millions to South Carolina team today fans rejoice..
COLUMBIA — South Carolina football needed some time to get going but found its rhythm in the second half to defeat Wofford 56-12 on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.
In their final home game of the season, the No. 19 Gamecocks (8-3) finished with 343 receiving yards and 365 rushing yards, split between a bevy of receivers, running backs and three quarterbacks: LaNorris Sellers, Robby Ashford and Davis Beville.
On the first drive, Wofford (5-7) completed a 63-yard pass that led to a field goal, and then in Sellers’ first drive of the game, he threw an interception. South Carolina got back to its old ways, logging four penalties for a loss of 35 yards in the first quarter, and finished with eight penalties for a loss of 67 yards.
“I thought our start was awful just to be completely frank,” South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said. “The first quarter, just not good enough in a lot of ways … to outscore them 35-3 in the second half is really good, the beginning of the third quarter was really good … proud of our response .”
Saturday marked five-straight wins for the Gamecocks, tying Beamer with Steve Spurrier for most wins by a coach in their first four seasons at South Carolina. Beamer is now 28-21.
A win on Nov. 30 (noon, ESPN) at Clemson (9-2) would enhance the bowl destination for the Gamecocks among other things, including making the 5-7 season from 2023 a distant memory.
“I think it’s rewarding because of what last season ended up being and how our guys have responded, for the guys who could have left after last season but came back,” Beamer said. “We knew we weren’t that far off (last year) and I am happy for the guys that returned having the success they’re having.”
South Carolina hasn’t lost a game in over a month, and has won by over 21 points in four of the five SEC wins this season. Sellers has thrown 660 yards the last two games on 44-of-57 passing.
“We were 3-3 after Alabama and there was no panic, no pointing fingers, it was just continue to work, get better, to win five in a row, have eight wins, credit to the leadership,” Beamer said. “It goes back to the way we practice, we try to get better … that’s allowed us to play pretty good football in the month of November.”
