Chris Henry was an American professional football player who played as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL. Born on May 17, 1983, in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, Henry was known for his impressive athleticism and deep-threat capability on the field. He attended West Virginia University, where he had a standout college career, earning Big East Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2003 and totaling 1,878 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns over two seasons.
Drafted by the Bengals in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, Henry played five seasons with the team. He recorded 119 receptions for 1,826 yards and 21 touchdowns during his career. Despite his on-field talent, Henry faced multiple legal issues and suspensions throughout his career, which affected his playing time.
Tragically, Henry’s life was cut short on December 17, 2009, when he fell out of the back of a moving truck during a domestic dispute with his fiancée. He died the following day from blunt force trauma to the head. An autopsy later revealed that Henry had developed chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain condition associated with repeated head injuries, making him one of the first active NFL players to be diagnosed with the disease posthumously.
Henry’s legacy continues through his son, Chris Henry Jr., who is a highly regarded wide receiver prospect. Born in 2007, Henry Jr. has already committed to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes and is considered one of the top recruits in the 2026 class.
