The Florida Gators head into the team’s second BYE week of the season, and then have its annual rivalry showdown in Jacksonville against Georgia the following weekend. Florida sits at 4-3 on the season on the off week, and are coming off a blowout win over the Kentucky Wildcats by a score of 48-20. The Gators three losses this season came at the hands of Miami, Texas A&M, and Tennessee, who combine for an 19-2 record at this point in the season.

The Gators have elevated its play in recent weeks, and have looked much more competitive, and it’s given confidence to former head coach Steve Spurrier, who serves as an ambassador for the Florida athletic department.

“I think we’re headed in the right direction after the other night,” Spurrier said on Another Dooley Noted Podcast this week. “I’ll tell you what, we’ve lost to two really good teams, Texas A&M and Miami. Had a chance to beat Tennessee obviously, just didn’t work out.”

The Gators have already seen tough opponents this season, and those won’t stop anytime soon. In the coming weeks to close out the season, Florida will play No. 2 Georgia, No. 5 Texas, No. 8 LSU, No. 18 Ole Miss, and travel to Florida State to close things out. In Spurrier’s eyes, the team will need to keep those recent improvements going, but do have the pieces in place.
