Caleb Downs is an American football safety for the Ohio Buckeyes. He had an outstanding freshman season with the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he was named the 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year. He attended Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, where he was named the All-American Bowl Player of the Year as a senior and was ranked as one of the top players in the 2023 college football recruiting class and considered as the nation’s No. 1 safety prospect.

In July 2022, Downs committed to Alabama. In his debut season, he led the team in tackles with eight and continued to excel throughout the year, culminating in 107 tackles, two interceptions, and recognition as the SEC Freshman of the Year. Downs made the decision to transfer to Ohio State, where he has quickly adapted to the Buckeyes’ defense after the retirement of the legendary coach Nick Saban. The safeties coach Matt Guerrieri has expressed immense confidence over Downs. His presence has been a game-changer for the Ohio State defense.
