The New York Mets have some work to do this offseason.
While the Mets will be busy in general, the biggest question mark swirling around the club certainly is the future of star first baseman Pete Alonso. Rumors will continue to swirl in either direction until Alonso either signs an extension with New York or is traded elsewhere. While no one knows exactly what will happen, president of baseball operations David Stearns has made it known he intends to keep Alonso.
The three-time All-Star will have a tough decision to make and took a step toward it Thursday by hiring BorasCorp — led by super agent Scott Boras — to represent him, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
“Mets slugging star Pete Alonso has hired the BorasCorp agency to represent him as Alonso heads into his free agent season, The Post has learned,” Heyman said. “It’s never easy for a team to sign a superstar in his walk year, and BorasCorp — run by noted baseball agent Scott Boras — has a reputation for taking most — but not all — of his best players to free agency.
